TalkSpace is a great way to have a mental health professional (at your convenience) as a part of your support system. I do not believe that talk therapy alone can tackle the symptoms of narcissistic or psychopathic abuse. However, it can be used as another tool.
As with any therapy, it is imperative that you are proactive and do your due diligence to determine if the selected professional is an appropriate match for you. Your approach should be the same as if you were going to their office. You would want to know if they have a background working with trauma and relationship issues associated with abusive mates. You should look into their credentials, their mode of psychology, and years of experience. The APA has written a very informative article regarding selecting a mental health professional. It might be helpful.
After narcissistic abuse just know that there are other (non-talk) approaches that tend to lead to even greater change (e.g., working with the brain, body/ sensory modalities). This is particularly true for populations of narcissistic abuse that have been traumatized. However, talk-therapy can be an excellent supplement.
If you are in need of someone who is trained in mental health to offer support, encouragement, availability, and understanding to address some of the milder symptoms (i.e., reduced confidence, trouble generating self-compassion), TalkSpace would likely be a nice addition to your recovery resources.
I am ‘all’ about transparency and your trust is important to me. I am an affiliate for TalkSpace. I’ve chosen to be an affiliate because I like the program and see that it can have limited usefulness for my community. ~ Dr. Freeman
